Jacob Follis, president of 'Average Joes, Inc.' at Martinsville High School, presented Marsha MacPhee-Webster of Desert Rose a check for $3,500 Tuesday. Brian MacDonald's entire Applied Economics class put on a dodge ball tournament and sold T-shirts and hats they designed. They also ran concessions at the game and ran televised advertisements about the event. The mock corporation broke all records set by other Martinsville classes in fundraising. MacPhee-Webster said the shelter now has 18 occupants and the money is badly needed for material support and supplies. She also invited the students to volunteer at the shelter. She said they could help families with babysitting and assist the staff in daily operations. Photo by Amy Hillenburg.
